The Music Jar is also accessible on iPad, tablets and smart phones, although you may not be able to download large files, depending upon the storage capacity on such devices. You may wish to download our preview files, as they are much smaller Mp3s – they do, however contain an audio watermark.

We offer a special membership rate to ALL schools, colleges, universities and other educational establishments, wishing to take advantage of our music library and its growing stock. For a one-off fee of £495 you have full, professional access to our entire library, to download and use any of our tracks in audio-visual / multimedia productions, created by your students. Rather than giving limited access or even an alternate website resource with fewer tracks available, we specifically want students to have the same level of access and experience as our professional members have. We know that many of them, once graduated will move into the industry, be it TV, film, radio, web or any other area where music plays an integral part. We want to encourage future producers, directors and creatives to become acquainted with our music library, in the hope that we may serve them in their professional careers for many years to come.

Having spoken to many course leaders, we understand the problems of sourcing fresh, new and legal music, as well as the limited resources of many educational establishments. With our vast amount of tracks, composed and produced by some of the most established film and media composers from around the world, students and teachers can remain inspired by new music, without the worry of copyright infringement, or having to use the same batch of CD’s each year!

It is vital that students are not given the login details and therefore must access the website, via a designated and key member of staff, to avoid any potential abuse of our composer’s music.

We would also encourage students who use our music to log the details of the tracks used, including composer, duration and publisher (The Music Jar Ltd.), to get used to the usual process and respect the principle of intellectual property and the value of copyright.

Althrough are tracks are royalty free, this does not mean that the music is free to purchase. The cost to download a track determines what you intend to use the track for. For example, if you are creating a home video that you intend to upload to YouTube, you will need our Standard License. However, if want to use the same track for a film or TV production you'd need to purchase our TV & Radio Licence.

There are several ways you can search for that perfect track.

If you know exactly what style, mood and feel you want, even specific instrumentation and tempo, then we suggest that you begin your search by using our ‘Advanced Search’ function, which you’ll find on most of our pages. Click on any of the drop-downs and select the relevant style, mood, instruments, tempo or composer and hit the search button. Once your track results are displayed, you can refine your search by using the menu on the left hand side of the page.

Alternatively, you can use our ‘Quick Search’ function, again featured on the majority of our pages. Simply enter a general term or specific word, such as piano or pop music and hit the search button. With this facility, you can get quite creative and type into the search box the name of a band or artist, and see if we have anything similar to what you want, by using an existing track as a style reference. 

In addition to these traditional search functions, we also have a large selection of playlists, put together by the composers or our other members, including categories such as; Cinematic Piano, Feel Good – Tunes to make you smile, Corporate, World Music and our new Quirky playlist, to name but a few.

You can pay per track, using a credit / debit card or PayPal. Simply add the license(s) you require to your basket and then proceed to checkout where you will enter the relevant details to make a fast, secure payment.

If you struggle to find your 'perfect' track, please get in touch with us - we know the library better than anyone and we'll search the jar on your behalf and then offer up a handful of suggestions.

We understand that library music is simply the 'only option' when budgets are tight and that no matter how good the quality, compromises have to be made... "crescendos too soon, resolves too late, why is there a Tuba solo in the middle of a rock track?"

At the 'The Music Jar', we offer a comprehensive music service that stretches way beyond the scope of these pages. Should you find a track that's almost perfect - all but one instrument, or a structural issue for example - it's always worth getting in touch with us. We may be able to access the original mix of that specific track and tweak it or perform a 'clever edit' to put the track right.

Simply contact us to discuss your requirements and - for a small commission fee - we can usually make that 'almost perfect' track into the 'perfect' one.

If you have a music budget set aside, why not commission us to compose a music track, tailor-made for your production. Our ever-growing team of composers are highly skilled and experienced at precisely following the brief and we guarantee you'll end up with the perfect track.

Yes please. This is especially important when our tracks are being used for broadcast productions. You must take care to accurately complete your cue sheets & consignment notes, clearly stating the name of the track, including our tag (Perfect Track - TMJ2014), the duration, name of composer and publisher (The Music Jar Ltd). This is to ensure that our composers are paid their performance royalties. Wherever possible, please credit The Music Jar and name of track and composer. If you have any questions about reporting the music usage, please don’t hesitate to contact us. 

Our members are able to create unlimited playlists, share them with friends and colleagues, as well as share them on our website and be part of our community / network. Once you have an account with us, you can manage your account, by organising your downloads into as many folders as you need. Prepare and store the tracks that you like, or think will be useful for future jobs, and download your purchased tracks anytime you want.

Our memberships don’t just stop at professional users as most libraries, they extend right across the board – whether you’re a personal, home or student (user), you too can sign up for a membership.   

Yes, of course we will, as we know our music better than anyone. Simply get in touch with us and tell us about your production and the type of track you would like and we will send you a ‘jar’ full of track suggestions that match your brief, along with some alternative ideas, based upon our experience as film and media composers. 

Once you have an account with us, you can create your own playlists of your favourite tracks or those you require for a particular job or client. Create a name and select an image that best represents the mood and feel of your playlist and simply share it on our ‘Latest Playlists’ page. 

It’s a great way to organise your playlists, in addition to the tracks that are saved within your account. Giving your playlists a name, image and a particular order, creates a professional looking package that you can then send on to your client or colleagues, whether pitching for a job, track ideas for upcoming jobs or simply sharing your playlist.

You can also share individual tracks or playlists to all of the usual social media sites, using the widgets next to them.

Please send mp3 or WAV files to info@themusicjar.co.uk via yousendit, dropbox, wetransfer, or any other trustworthy transference system, or via a link to an ftp site, if you have one. We will listen to all submissions and do our best to get back to you within one month, but due to the volume of submissions, we can't guarantee that we will respond if your music doesn't meet the standards we require.

To Qualify for our Free For Broadcast licence (FFB), you must produce a minimum of 3 broadcast productions per year, within the UK, for either TV and Radio commercials, TV and Radio programmes, documentaries, game shows, News programmes or similar productions. If these productions are broadcast in the following territories, or other royalty bearing countries, then you may also qualify for our Free For Broadcast (FFB) licence:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,Turkey, United Kingdom, USA.

To find out whether you qualify, you must accurately complete our FFB membership application or contact us to discuss your specific requirements: info@themusicjar.co.uk - 0161 432 3113. We will then assess your application and let you know whether or not you will qualify for our Free for Broadcast (FFB) licence within 48 hours.
